Baron Abercromby

Baron Abercromby , of Aboukir and of Tullibody in the County of Clackmannan , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was bestowed on Mary Anne Abercromby on May 28, 1801 in recognition of the achievements of her husband, General Sir Ralph Abercromby . Under his command, British troops landed at Abukir in Egypt on March 8, 1801, and won a brilliant victory against the French on March 21, 1801 in the Battle of Alexandria , which resulted in them having to evacuate Egypt. Sir Ralph Abercromby was fatally wounded in the latter battle and finally died on May 28, 1801.

The title expired on October 7, 1924, when the great grandson of Mary Anne Abercromby, the 5th Baron, died.
