Baron Beaverbrook

Baron Beaverbrook , of Beaverbrook in the Province of New Brunswick , Canada , and of Cherkley in the County of Surrey , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

The title was given to the famous British-Canadian newspaper publisher and politician Sir Max Aitken, 1st Baronet , on January 2, 1917 . He was responsible for reporting on Canadian troops on the Western Front during the First World War . During World War II he was Minister for Aircraft Production, then for Supplies. As early as July 3, 1916, the subordinate title Baronet , of Cherkley in the County of Surrey, had been awarded to him.

The son of the first Baron waived three days after the death of his father to the barony on the grounds that it during his lifetime, only one Lord Beaverbrook should give. He then held the baronet title .
