Baron Campbell
Baron Campbell , of St. Andrews in the County of Fife , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . The title has been associated with the title of Baron Stratheden since 1861 .
Awarding and other titles
The title was created on June 30, 1841 for the prominent Whig MP in the House of Commons and Attorney General Sir John Campbell on the occasion of his appointment as Lord Chancellor of Ireland . He was later also Lord Chancellor of the United Kingdom .
In recognition of his services, his wife, Hon. Mary Campbell , had already been raised to Baroness Stratheden on January 22, 1836 .
The two titles have been combined since the couple were inherited by their eldest son in 1861 and 1860, respectively.
