Baron Digby

Baron Digby , of Geashill in the King′s County , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .

Award and history of the title

The title was created on July 29, 1620 for the governor of King's County Robert Digby .

His descendant, the 7th Baron, was raised in the Peerage of Great Britain on August 19, 1765 to Baron Digby , of Sherborne in the County of Dorset , and on November 1, 1790 to Earl Digby and Viscount Coleshill . The title of baron from 1765 was bestowed on him with the special addition that in the absence of male descendants he could also be inherited by his father's male descendants. The Earldom and the Viscountcy went out in 1856 with the death of his son, the 2nd Earl, the two baronies of Digby still exist today.
