Baron Ellenborough
Baron Ellenborough , of Ellenborough in the County of Cumberland , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was created for Sir Edward Law on April 19, 1802 . He was a well-known lawyer, judge and politician of his time. From 1802 to 1818 he served as Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench .
Other titles
The 2nd Baron, after having been Viceroy of India , was made Earl of Ellenborough , in the County of Cumberland, and Viscount Southam , of Southam in the County of Gloucester . The titles, which also belonged to the Peerage of the United Kingdom, expired on his death in 1871, as his only son had already died before.
