Richard Law, 8th Baron Ellenborough

Richard Edward Cecil Law, 8th Baron Ellenborough ( January 14, 1926 - June 7, 2013 ) was a British peer and politician of the Conservative Party .

life and career

Law was born on January 14, 1926 to Henry Law, 7th Baron Ellenborough and Helen Dorothy Lovatt († 2002). He attended Eton College and Magdalene College .

In 1958 he was a director of the Towry Law Group . He was a partner at McAnally Montgomery , a stockbroker from 1969 to 1978. He lived in Crowborough , Sussex (as of 2003). Law was a member of the Hereditary Peerage Association .

Membership in the House of Lords

Law inherited after the death of his father in 1945 the title of Baron Ellenborough and the then associated seat in the House of Lords . He gave his inaugural address on June 22, 1949.

In the 1950s he spoke on the Life Peers Bill [HL] , House of Lords Reform, the Local Government Bill, and the Liberties Of The Subject Bill [HL] . Law enlisted in the Finance Bill , Southern Railway Delays And Season Ticket Holders, and Functions With Respect To Land Drainage, Flood Prevention, Etc in the 1960s . In the 1970s, he spoke on Northern Ireland , terrorism and parliamentary constituencies. In the 1980s he dealt with the Government of Northern Ireland, the Olympic team and the European elections . He spoke on local government, Scottish constituencies, and constitutional issues in the 1990s. He last spoke on June 30, 1999 on the House of Lords Bill .

He lost his seat through the House of Lords Act 1999 . He ran for one of the remaining seats, but only finished 105th in his party. 42 seats were awarded for these.

He was not listed in the Register of Hereditary Peers , which are available for by-election. (As of May 2012)

family

Law married on October 9, 1953 Rachel Mary Hedley († 1986), daughter of Major Ivor Mathews Hedley . In his second marriage, he was married to Frances Edith Joyce Yeates († 2004), daughter of William Thomas Yeates. The wedding took place on March 12, 1994.

He has three sons from his first marriage.
