Richard Legh, 5th Baron Newton

Richard Thomas Legh, 5th Baron Newton (born January 11, 1950 ) is a British peer , lawyer and independent politician .

life and career

Legh was born on January 11, 1950 to Peter Legh, 4th Baron Newton (1915-1992) and Priscilla Palmer (* 1915).

He was approved as a solicitor . He has been General Commissioner of Income Tax since 1983 . He was in Wealden DC from 1987 to 1999. From 1992 to 1995 he was a member of the Sussex Downs Conservative Board , and again from 1997 to 1998.

He currently does not belong to the Hereditary Peerage Association .

Legh is in possession of the diaries of Thomas Legh, 2nd Baron Newton .

Membership in the House of Lords

After his father's death in June 1992, he inherited the title of Baron Newton and the associated seat in the House of Lords . He first took it on December 9, 1992.

He lost his seat through the House of Lords Act 1999 . He did not run for one of the remaining seats.

He is currently not listed in the Register of Hereditary Peers , which are available for by-election. (As of May 2012)

family

Legh married Rosemary Whitfoot Clarke, the second daughter of Herbert Whitfoot Clarke, on May 19, 1978.

Together they have two children, a son and a daughter.
