Thomas Legh, 2nd Baron Newton

Thomas Wodehouse Legh, 2nd Baron Newton PC (March 18, 1857 - March 21, 1942 ) was a British Liberal Party politician who was Paymaster General between 1915 and 1916 .

Life

He was the son of William John Legh , who was a Member of the House of Commons between 1859 and 1865 and from 1868 to 1885 , and by letters patent dated August 27, 1892 as 1st Baron Newton , of Newton-in-Makerfield in the County of Lancaster was raised to the hereditary nobility.

On August 16, 1886, he was also a member of the Lower House, where he represented the Newton constituency until December 15, 1898 . After the death of his father on December 15, 1898, he inherited his title as 2nd Baron Newton and thus became a member of the House of Lords .

During the tenure of Prime Minister Herbert Henry Asquith , he was Paymaster General from 1915 to December 1916 and also became a member of the Privy Council .

His marriage to Evelyn Caroline Bromley Davenport on July 24, 1880, a daughter of longtime MP William Bromley Davenport , had three children, including Richard William Davenport Legh , who inherited the title of 3rd Baron Newton after his death.
