Baron Glenarthur
Baron Glenarthur , of Carlung in the County of Ayr , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on June 27, 1918 for the Scottish businessman Sir Matthew Arthur, 1st Baronet . Among other things, he was chairman of the Glasgow and South Western Railway and several other companies. The title of the barony came about as a matronym and patronym of the mother's maiden name and the surname of the father of the first baron.
The first baron had been promoted to Baronet , of Carlung in the County of Ayr, on November 28, 1902 . This title, which belongs to the Baronetage of the United Kingdom , is used as a subordinate title by the respective baron.
