Baron Glentoran
Baron Glentoran , of Ballyalloly in the County of Down , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on July 8, 1939 for the Northern Irish MP Herbert Dixon . This belonged to the unionists and was for many years a member of the regional government of Northern Ireland.
The first baron inherited the title of 3rd Baronet , of Ballymenock in the County of Antrim in 1950 from his older brother, which had been created for his father on October 7, 1903 in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. The latter was also a well-known Northern Irish politician, including several times Lord Mayor of Belfast . The baronetcy has since been listed as a subordinate title of the respective baron.
The family seat of the barons is Drumadarragh House near Ballyclare in County Antrim .
