Baron Hesketh , of Hesketh in the County Palatine of Lancaster , is a hereditary British title of nobility from the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on January 25, 1935 for Sir Thomas Fermor-Hesketh, 8th Baronet , who had represented the London borough of Enfield in the House of Commons as a member of the Conservative Party from 1922 to 1923 . His grandson, Alexander , who succeeded his father in 1955, has held the title since 2010 . The current Lord Hesketh held positions in the Conservative governments of Margaret Thatcher and John Major . He lost his seat in the House of Lords after the House of Lords Act 1999 abolished the automatic right of hereditary peers to a seat in the British Parliament.

The 1st Baron had inherited the title of 8th Baronet , of Rufford in the County Palatine of Lancaster, in 1924 . This was created on May 5, 1761 in the Baronetage of Great Britain for Thomas Hesketh . This was followed in 1778 by his brother Robert Hesketh . His great-great-grandson, the 5th Baronet, sat for the Conservative Party , constituency of Preston in the Parliament of the United Kingdom . He was a grandfather of the future Baron Hesketh.

Family seats

The former family seat of the Barons Hesketh was Easton Neston near Towcester in Northamptonshire . This country house was previously the family seat of the Fermor ( Earls of Pomfret since 1721) and came into existence in 1867 when George Fermor, 5th Earl of Pomfret died, through his sister and heir Lady Anna Maria Isabella Fermor , who had lived with Sir Thomas George Hesketh, 5th since 1846 Baronet , who was married, to the Hesketh family. However, the property was sold in 2005 by the current Baron Hesketh.
