Baron Howard of Penrith
Baron Howard of Penrith , of Gowbarrow in the County of Cumberland , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was awarded to the diplomat Sir Esme Howard on July 10, 1930 , on the occasion of his end of service as British ambassador to the USA. He came from the aristocratic Howard family and was a great-grandson of the 11th Duke of Norfolk .
Today's title holder has been his grandson Philip Howard as 3rd Baron since 1999 .
