Baron Howard
Baron Howard was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .
Award and history of the title
The title was bestowed on October 15, 1470 , when Sir John Howard was appointed to the House of Lords of the English Parliament by Writ of Summons . On June 28, 1483 he was also raised to Duke of Norfolk and Earl Marshal of England . Faithful to the House of York in the Wars of the Roses , he fell, as did King Richard III. , on August 22, 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth . His opponent, House Lancaster , was then crowned King Henry VII ; Howard was posthumously ostracized by Parliament on November 7, 1485 ( Bill of Attainder ) for supporting Richard, and his title was stripped from him.
The Dukedom was restored in 1514 for his son Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk , but not the barony.
