Baron Hylton is a hereditary British title of nobility that has been awarded twice so far.

First award

The title was first used in the Peerage of England in 1295 , when Robert Hylton was appointed to the Model Parliament by Writ of Summons . His son Alexander was called to parliament in 1332 and 1335. His descendants, however, were no longer called into parliament. That is why the title has only existed de jure since then . When the de jure 18th Baron Hylton died in 1746 without a male heir, the title fell in Abeyance .

Second award

The second bestowal took place in 1866 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom with the bestowal of the title Baron Hylton of Hylton in the County Palatine of Durham and of Petersfield in the County of Southampton to the military and Conservative politician, Sir William Jolliffe, 1st Baronet . He was a co-heir to the dormant baron's first-bestowal. He had already been raised to Baronet , of Merstham in the County of Surrey in 1821 . Today his great-great-grandson holds the title as the 5th baron.
