Baron Lisle is a hereditary British title of nobility awarded five times in the Peerage of England and once in the Peerage of Ireland .

Awards

The title was created for the first time on December 29, 1299 in the Peerage of England for John de Lisle , when he was appointed to the English Parliament by Writ of Summons . When his son, the 2nd baron, died in 1337 without an heir, the title expired.

Parallel to the first award, Robert de Lisle was raised to Baron Lisle (of Rougemont ) on December 19, 1311 by Writ of Summons in the Peerage of England . This title expired when his grandson, the 3rd Baron, died in 1399 without a legitimate heir.

Parallel to the second award, Gerard de Lisle was raised to Baron Lisle (of Kingston Lisle) in the third award on December 15, 1357 by Writ of Summons in the Peerage of England . In 1422, on the death of his great-granddaughter, the 4th Baroness , who was married to the 13th Earl of Warwick , the title in Abeyance fell between their three daughters.

In the fourth bestowal, the title was created for John Talbot on July 26, 1444 by Writ of Summons in the Peerage of England . On October 30, 1451 he was also raised to Viscount Lisle . When his son, the 2nd Viscount, died on March 20, 1470, the Viscountcy was extinguished and the barony fell in Abeyance between his two sisters. In 1475, when the younger sister died, the Abeyance was ended in favor of the older sister Elizabeth Talbot as 3rd Baroness. For their spouse, Sir Edward Gray , the title Viscount Lisle was newly created on June 28, 1483, so that her son, as 4th Baron and 2nd Viscount, reunited the two titles. When this 2nd Viscount died on September 9, 1504 without male heirs, the Viscountcy became extinct, the barony fell to his daughter as the 5th baroness, and when she died in 1519, to his sister Elizabeth Gray as the 6th baroness. Her first husband Edmund Dudley was executed for high treason in 1510, whereby the title claim for their children was forfeited and expired on their death around 1525.

In the fifth award, the title was recreated for Ambrose Dudley on December 25, 1561 by Letters patent in the Peerage of England . The next day, the title of 3rd Earl of Warwick, which had been revoked from his brother, was restored. He was a grandson of the last Baroness fourth award. Since he left no children, the titles expired on his death on February 21, 1590

In the sixth award on September 18, 1758 in the Peerage of Ireland, the title Baron Lisle , of Mountnorth in the County of Cork , was bestowed on the Irish politician John Lysaght . Today's title holder has been his great-great-great-great-great-great-grandson Nicholas Lysaght as the 9th Baron since 2003 .
