Baron Merthyr

Baron Merthyr , of Senghenydd in the County of Glamorgan , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

The title was created on June 24, 1911 for the Welsh mining contractor Sir William Lewis, 1st Baronet . He had already been conferred the hereditary dignity of Baronet , of Nantgwyne, Cwmtâf, in the Parish of Vaynor, in the County of Brecon , and Tonmawr-Ishaf, Neath , in the County of Glamorgan, on February 15, 1896 .

His great-grandson, who inherited the title of 4th baron on April 5, 1977, renounced the title of baron for life on April 26, 1977. He also never held the baronet title. Since 2015, his son has held the title as the 5th baron.
