Hon. Trevor Oswin Lewis CBE (born November 29, 1935 - † August 5, 2015 ) was a British non-party local politician . In 1977 he inherited the title of baron from his father, but renounced the title.

Life

Trevor Oswin Lewis was born as the eldest son of William Lewis, 3rd Baron Merthyr (1901–1977) and his wife Violet Meyrick (1909–2003). He attended Eton College in Windsor and studied at Magdalene College of Cambridge University .

Lewis has worked as a politician in local politics and local government in Wales . He was 1969-1994 Magistrate (Justice of the Peace JP) in the administrative county of Dyfed in Wales. He was chairman of the Committee for Wales from 1973 to 1980 ; then he was Deputy Chairman from 1980 to 1983. From 1973 to 1983 he was a member of the Countryside Commission . Since 1994 he was Deputy Lieutenant (DL) for Dyfed County.

With the death of his father on April 5, 1977 he inherited the nobility title of 4th Baron Merthyr and the subordinate title of 4th Baronet , of Nantgwyne. Under the regulations of the Peerage Act 1963 , Lewis renounced his peer title and rights, including the associated seat in the House of Lords, for life on April 26, 1977 . Formally he was thus from April 5, 1977 to April 26, 1977 member of the House of Lords, although he never actually took the seat. By renouncing the title, the baron title was suspended until his death. He never used the title of baronet either.

In 1983 he was inducted into the Order of the British Empire as Commander .

Marriage and offspring

He married Susan Jane Birt-Llewellin, daughter of Arthur Birt-Llewellin, on April 18, 1964. The marriage had four children, a son and three daughters. In 2003 he lived at Hean Castle near Saundersfoo in Dyfed. When he died on August 5, 2015 at the age of 79, the two titles of nobility were passed on to his only son, the Hon. David Trevor Lewis (* 1977).
