Awards

For the first time the title was bestowed on June 29, 1747 in the Peerage of Great Britain to the House of Commons Sir Henry Liddell, 4th Baronet . As early as 1723 he had inherited the title of Baronet , of Ravensworth Castle in the County of Durham, from his father , which was bestowed on his ancestor Thomas Liddell († 1650) on November 2, 1642. The barony expired on January 30, 1784, when the 1st baron died without male descendants. The Baronetcy fell to his nephew Henry Liddell (1749–1791) as the 5th Baronet. For his son, the House of Commons Sir Thomas Liddell, 6th Baronet , the baron title was recreated on July 17, 1821 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

His son, the 2nd Baron, was also made Earl of Ravensworth , of Ravensworth Castle in the County of Durham, and Baron Eslington , of Eslington Park in the County of Northumberland on April 2, 1874 . These two titles expired on the death of his younger son, the 3rd Earl, on February 7, 1904. The Barony of Ravensworth and the Baronetcy fell to his cousin as the 5th Baron.

Today's title holder has been his great-great-nephew Thomas Liddell, 9th Baron Ravensworth , since 2004 .
