Course and condition

Ruda Bielszowice Railway Station (2011)

The line begins at Katowice Ligota station (Idaweiche / Kattowitz-Idaweiche) on the Katowice – Zwardoń railway line , which is also the start of the lines to Nędza and Tychy via Katowice Murcki . It first runs northwards to the Panewnik junction (km 1.999), where the Dąbrowa Górnicza Towarowa – Panewnik railway ends and a siding to two coal mines begins, then north-west to the Ruda Kochłowice station (Kochlowitz; km 7.020), the end point of the Chorzów Batory– railway line. Ruda Kochłowice is the beginning of the Ruda Kochłowice – Ruda Orzegów railway and a connection to the “Nowy Wirek” coal mine , then westwards via the Ruda Bielszowice station (Bielschowitz; km 13.396), on which, in addition to some siding, an even electrified line to the “Halemba” coal mine “ Branches off to Zabrze Makoszowy station (Makoschau; km 16.681), which is the start of the Zabrze – Leszczyny railway line . The route now runs northwest via the Zabrze Makoszowy Kopalnia train stations (Delbrückschächte; km 17.960), where it meets the Upper Silesian Sand Railway and connects to the local coal mine , and Gliwice Sośnica (Sosnitza / Gleiwitz Ost; km 21.250) to the Gliwice train station (Gleiwitz state train station ) / Gleiwitz Hauptbahnhof) on the Katowice – Legnica line , which is also the end point of the Zabrze Biskupice – Gliwice line .

The line has two tracks throughout and is electrified with three kilovolts DC . The maximum permissible speeds are the same for passenger and freight trains. They are thirty to eighty kilometers per hour. The track towards Gliwice and the one towards Katowice Ligota often differ here.

history

The line from Gleiwitz to Bielschowitz was opened by the Prussian State Railways on February 1, 1904, between Bielschowitz and Idaweiche on October 1, 1904 . With the division of Upper Silesia along the so-called Sforza Line in 1921 as a result of the First World War , the Versailles Treaty and the referendum in Upper Silesia , the German-Polish border ran at Makoschau , with the Makoschau train station already in Poland. The western part of the line belonged to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , the eastern part to the Polish State Railways . The state border disappeared again in 1939 with the German occupation of Poland in World War II , after which the line belonged completely to the Reichsbahn and was expanded to two tracks in 1942. In 1945 the line was now completely Polish, but the second track between Bielschowitz and Gleiwitz was dismantled and reopened in 1965.

Electrical operation between the Panewnik junction and the Radoszowy junction has been possible since May 30, 1970, and the rest of the route since September 8, 1977. Passenger traffic was discontinued on June 1, 1997.
