Makoszowy ( German : Makoschau ) is a district of Zabrze with 2,000 inhabitants. It is located in the Silesian Voivodeship , Poland .

history

Until it was incorporated into Zabrze in 1951, Makoschau was an independent municipality. Since then it has been a district of Zabrze (Zabrze-Makoszowy) around 4 km south of the city center. Makoschau is located on the Klodnitz and its tributaries Bielczanka and Schwarzwasser, surrounded by forests and ponds, and is therefore a popular recreational area for nature lovers and anglers.

The settlement was mainly inhabited by farmers until the middle of the 19th century. It was not until the second half of the 19th century that Makoschau turned mainly into a mining area thanks to the industrialization of the Upper Silesian industrial area. In Makoschau there are the Delbrück shafts , a coal mine that was built from 1900 to 1906.

On November 8th, 1781 the pioneer of the development of Upper Silesian industry was born in Makoszowy: Karl Godulla

The Zabrze Makoszowy railway station is the branch of the Zabrze – Leszczyny line from the Katowice Ligota – Gliwice line. Both lines are no longer served by passenger traffic.

Sports

The successful Makoschauer club was the SV Delbrückschächte, founded in 1922 . He played in the top Upper Silesian football league . With the conquest of the territories by the Red Army in early 1945 , the association expired.
