Ligota (Katowice)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ligota (German Idaweiche or Ellgoth ) is the southern district of Katowice .

The original village of Ligota was first mentioned in 1360 as a village in the Duchy of Pless . The first settlement was in the area around today's Alt-Ligota (streets: Ligocka, Załęska, Hetmańska, Rolna). Many centuries later, when Katowice became a big city, Katowice people sought relaxation in this wooded region bordering the city.

Today there are several hospitals there, for example "Centralny Szpital Kliniczny" (Central Clinical Hospital), "Szpital Kolejowy" (Railway Hospital), "Górnośląskie Centrum Zdrowia Matki i Dziecka im. Jana Pawła II ”( Upper Silesian Health Center for Mother and Child“ John Paul II ), also in Ligota is the Silesian Medical University of Katowice .

From the city center you can reach Ligota by train (there is a PKP train station in the district ), bus or by car.

Katowice Ligota Railway Station is a junction on the Katowice – Zwardoń railway, where the line to Nędza and the no longer operated passenger lines to Gliwice and Tychy via Katowice Katowice Murcki begin.
