Bogucice (German: Bogutschütz ) is a district of Katowice and is located about 2 km northeast of the city center. Bogucice has around 15,000 inhabitants. The district consists of a 19th century part and a few new settlements.
history
The first written mention of the place dates from December 15, 1360, even if it was founded probably as early as the 13th century.
A parish school was founded in the 16th century. In 1822 the Ferdinand coal mine was built . Pastor Leopold Markiefka founded an orphanage in 1858. On July 17, 1892 the foundation stone was laid for the neo-Gothic parish church of St. Stephen, which replaced the old scrap wood church . On October 25, 1894, the church was consecrated by the Breslau bishop Georg von Kopp .
In the referendum in Upper Silesia in 1921, 5,189 votes (43.7%) were cast in favor of remaining with Germany, and 6,783 (56.3%) in favor of joining Poland. In 1922 the place fell to Poland. On July 15, 1924, the municipality of Bogucice was incorporated into the city of Katowice.
