Baron Saint John of Bletso , of Bletso in the County of Bedford , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .

Awarding and other titles

On January 13, 1559, the title was created by Letters patent for Oliver St. John .

The 4th Baron was also elevated to Earl of Bolingbroke on December 28, 1624 . His son was appointed to the House of Lords on May 14, 1641 by Writ of Acceleration and thus followed ahead of schedule as the 5th Baron St. John of Bletso. When he died in the Battle of Edgehill in 1642 and died before his father, the title of baron reverted to his father. When he died in 1646, his grandson, a son of the younger brother of the 5th Baron, inherited the Earldom and the Barony when the latter was childless in 1688. With the childless death of the 3rd Earl in 1711, the Earl title expired and the title of baron passed to his second uncle, Sir Paulet St. John, 5th Baronet . This inherited the title in 1711Baronet , of Northwood in the County of Northampton , who was created in the Baronetage of England in 1660 for Oliver St. John († 1662), the fourth son of the 3rd Baron. The baronetcy has since been a subordinate title of the baron.

Today Anthony St. John holds the title as 22nd Baron.
