Baron Wallscourt
Baron Wallscourt , of Ardfry in the County of Galway , was a British hereditary title in the Peerage of Ireland .
Award and history of the title
The title was bestowed on July 31, 1800, to the House of Commons, Joseph Blake . The award was made with the special addition that, in the absence of male descendants of his own, he could also be given to male descendants of his father. When the 1st Baron died, who left behind a daughter but no sons, his father was still alive, which is why the title was suspended until his death in 1806. In 1806 the title of his nephew, Joseph Blake, the son of his brother Ignatius Blake († 1797), was confirmed as 2nd baron. When he died childless in 1816, his cousin, Joseph Blake, a son of the youngest brother of the 1st Baron, Henry Blake († 1811), followed him as 3rd Baron. When his grandson, the 5th Baron, died childless on April 27, 1920, the title expired.
