The tunnel section of the Piccadilly Line ends immediately to the east of the station. Its tracks lie between those of the District Line up to Acton Town station. Two central platforms facilitate direct transfers between trains on the two lines that are traveling in the same direction.

The station building is a well-preserved example of Edwardian architecture , which is modeled on the Baroque with its numerous decorations . The building has been a listed building ( Grade II ) since 1985 .

history

The station was opened on October 9, 1905 by the Metropolitan District Railway , the predecessor of the District Line. The Piccadilly Line began operating on December 15, 1906. However, the line had already been opened in 1874. The station was added later and was part of a larger construction project. A new residential area has been created on the previously undeveloped area.

The new quarter was named Barons Court (grammatically correct would have been Baron's Court ). The name goes back to Karl Alexander, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach (a German margrave corresponds to the English baron). At the beginning of the 19th century he owned a property called Brandenburg House in nearby Hammersmith . Through his wife, Lady Elizabeth Craven , he had also acquired Craven Cottage , which is now the Fulham FC football stadium . A street at the station is called Margravine Gardens (" Margravine Gardens ").
