Barreado

Barreado is a stew that takes its name which with clay sealed clay pot (port. Barro = clay) owes in which it was cooked earlier for 24 hours. It is a typical dish from the region around Morretes, a small town in the Serra da Graciosa in Paraná , southern Brazil . The main ingredients are beef, bacon , onions, tomatoes, vinegar and garlic. Nowadays the dish is usually prepared in a pressure cooker , cooking time at least two hours.

The dish is traditionally served with a porridge made from Farinha de Mandioca ( cassava flour ), sweet bananas (e.g. Nanica) and orange slices. In some recipes, the cassava flour is added directly to the stew and then served with polished rice .
