description
The Barskimming New Bridge was probably built in 1788. Around two kilometers south of Mauchline, the driveway to the Old Barskimming country house leads over the River Ayr . The arch bridge spans the river valley with a single arch. The simple parapet of sandstone building is obelisk shaped. Ramps lead to the bridge on both sides.
Part of the monument is the elongated workers' house on the south bank. In the masonry made of rubble from red sandstone , mostly twelve-part lattice windows are embedded. The building closes with a slate hipped roof . A viewing platform is adjacent to the building. It was built over a cave and is designed with pointed arched windows.
