Business activity

Vegetable transport

Gemüsering cultivates several hundred hectares of open land and greenhouses at locations in nine German federal states, in Portugal and in Romania . In addition, the company sources and processes other vegetables from around 100 local farmers.

The most important products marketed in 2012 were carrots (especially washed carrots ), tomatoes, cauliflower, cucumber and white cabbage, with a production of 2.2 (white cabbage) to 5.8 million pieces (carrots). The vegetable ring has prepared and packaged a total of 65,000 tons of carrots this year.

At a company location on the Mannheim wholesale market, the company operates a photovoltaic system that produces around 75 megawatt hours of energy per year. This corresponds to the needs of around 25 single-family homes.

history

The company was founded in 1991 and has since taken over various companies.

The solar system in Mannheim was built in 2008.

At the beginning of 2011, Gemüsering acquired a stake in Fruchtimport vanWylick GmbH in Düsseldorf , which sells fruits from Europe and overseas, especially bananas . Since March 2011 vanWylick has been a joint venture between Gemüsering and the Irish fruit trading company Fyffes .

The EHEC epidemic in May 2011 led to massive sales problems in the German vegetable industry. After an official warning against the consumption of raw cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce, canteens and large kitchens temporarily stopped using these ingredients; as a result, sales at Gemüsering collapsed by 80 percent at times.

In 2012, Gemüsering and Mönchengladbach-based Hans-Willi Böhmer GmbH & Co. KG jointly took over 250 hectares of open land and 30 hectares of greenhouse space from the Rink Group in Laasdorf , Thuringia . The joint venture operates as Gemüsering-Böhmer and grows vine tomatoes , cucumbers and cauliflower in Thuringia . On January 1, 2016, the Gemüsering took over the wholesaler Abels Frucht Welt in Bonn-Dransdorf.
