more details

Bart's Preinstalled Environment was developed by its namesake Bart Lagerweij . Since December 2015, 9 years after the last version, the only information on the website is that BartPE is no longer available.

While the Microsoft solution - Windows PE - originally aimed to support automated installation, BartPE was a live system . It should administrators help of Windows, corrupted Windows installations to repair, recover data, virus scans or perform backups in the form of memory images ( Images restore) to the hard drive.

BartPE was created using the PE Builder program (also programmed by Bart Lagerweij). An original Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 CD was required to create BartPE . Versions from Windows Vista onwards were not supported.

By plug-ins (eg. As Drive Image XML ) additional programs could be integrated into BartPE. BartPE supporters have written and made a number of such plug-ins available.

Various other solutions such as Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (UBCD), Reatogo X-PE , BOINCpe , TeutonPE or various variants of PC magazines were derived from BartPE .
