Bartholomew beer

Bartholomäus Bier (* before 1534 , † around 1578 ) was a German local politician in the 16th century . He was considered one of the most important mayors of Spandau.

Live and act

From May 1543 he was a student at the University of Wittenberg. From 1550 to 1560 he held the office of councilor in Spandau. In 1559 he was appointed chief judge by the council. He was from 1563 to 1578 the office of mayor of Spandau (which at that time was still called "Spandow").

Not much is known about his history other than that he died around 1578. Its best-known historical appearance occurred in connection with the so-called Spandau stick wars . As a result, Bartholomäus Bier had to serve several months locked up in the fortress of Elector Joachim II Hector .

Commemoration

The Berlin district of Spandau has honored its former mayor with a plaque in Carl-Schurz-Strasse 2-6, Spandau.
