Street in Bartica

Bartica is a town in the South American region Cuyuni-Mazaruni in Guyana . It is located on the left bank of the Essequibo at the confluence of the Cuyuni and Mazaruni with the Essequibo. This made the city an important gateway into the interior. The city was created by the settlement of Anglican missionaries in 1842, which just a few years later had around 30 houses and a church. The name Bartica means red earth .

The city has two secondary and three primary schools, and there is also a hospital in town. In the north of the village there are ruins of an old Dutch fort Kyk-Over-All . Every Easter weekend there is a regatta in Bartica with other sporting events such as cricket, boxing and football. There is also a street parade and an election for the Miss Bartica Regatta. There is another regatta in August.
