Bartolomeo di Fruosino
Bartolomeo di Fruosino (* 1366 or 1369 in Florence ; † December 7, 1441 ibid) was an Italian painter .
Life
The date of birth of Bartolomeo di Fruosino is not clearly established, since the artist himself stated his age as 61 in 1427 and 64 in 1433. His brother Giovanni was a sculptor and perhaps also a painter. From 1394 he belonged to the Compagnia dei Pittori of Florence. Together with Agnolo Gaddi , he worked in 1394 on the design of the Cappella del Sacro Cingolo of the cathedral in Prato . Numerous commissions from the Ospedale Santa Maria Nuova to him are documented between 1402 and 1438 . Bartolomeo di Fruosino was a bachelor all his life and apparently died a wealthy man.
meaning
Bartolomeo di Fruosino is not one of the great artists of the early 15th century. Stylistically, the influence of Agnolo Gaddi and later Lorenzo Monaco can be determined. The only signed work by Bartolomeo is the illumination for a missal in the church of Sant'Egidio from 1421, all other works are attributions to him.
