Bashir al-Najafi

Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Bashir al-Najafi ( Arabic بشير النجفي Bashir Al-Najafi , * 1942 in Jalandhar ) is an Iraqi Shiite clergyman.

He was born in Jalandhar , British India , and comes from a religious family. After Pakistan's independence in 1947, his family emigrated to Lahore . There he went to the religious school "Jamia tul Muntazar" and finished his elementary school in 1965.

Today he teaches at the Islamic Theological College of Najaf , of which he is one of the highest authorities.

He was one of the signatories to the Amman Embassy . He was one of the 24 personalities who wrote a fatwa (legal opinion).

The Shiite cleric Sheikh Ali Bashir Husain al-Najafi is his son.
