Basel XI

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Basel XI football team was a selection of Basel football players who took part in five trade fair cup tournaments .

The competition started on April 18, 1955, and the first tournament took three years to complete. The best soccer team in a trade fair city should take part. However, since the rules only allowed one team from each city, it was decided to create a team just for this tournament. Essentially, the best players from the Basel-based clubs, FC Basel , FC Nordstern and FC Concordia were selected .

The premiere of the trade fair city cup took place on June 4, 1955 in the St. Jakob Stadium in Basel. The selection of Basel lost against a selection of London in front of 12,000 spectators with 0: 5. The second leg, eleven months later, they lost 0-1.
