The Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta is a church in Genoa . It was designed in 1549 by Galeazzo Alessi as the central building (the name Basilica is only used as a title) and built within five decades on the hill of Carignano , in the center of the city. The facade was completely redesigned in the 19th century by the architect Carlo Barabino . The basilica is considered exemplary of the Renaissance architecture in Genoa.
