Carignano (Genoa)
Carignano is a district of the Italian port city of Genoa . The district, which is mainly used as a residential area, is located on a hill, 50 meters above sea level, in the middle of the city center.
Administratively, Carignano belongs to the Munizip I Centro Est and belongs to the former administrative district of Portoria . 8,215 people live in the district.
Carignano was once the hill of the monasteries and a religious retreat; today the quarter, together with the districts of Albaro and Castelletto, is part of the “better” Genoa. In addition to palazzi and villas, there are well-tended parks and rich church buildings - the Chiesa del Sacro Cuore and the Basilica di Carignano should be mentioned here. A special attraction of the district is the Villa Croce , which today houses the Museum of Contemporary Art, and its marvelous park.
The main connection to the city center is Via Fieschi , which is mentioned in the works of the Italian poet Camillo Sbarbaro , for example .
Carignano is also home to Genoa’s second major hospital, the Ospedale Galliera .
