history

As the first church in the village of Stara Dąbrowa, the branch church of St. Alexander was built between 1875 and 1877 as a single-nave brick building with two towers. Today it joins the north nave of the basilica as a chapel without the towers. Our Lady of Angels Congregation was founded in 1891 by Tomasz Kuliński , Bishop of Kiel . In 1897 the painting "Queen of Angels" was brought to the church. The current parish church was officially built between 1898 and 1912 as an extension to the old church, as a new building had not been approved by the Russian authorities. The church was consecrated on September 29, 1912 by the Kielc bishop Augustyn Łosiński . Already in 1901 it received by Leo XIII. awarded the rank of minor basilica. The church was thoroughly renovated in 1952.

The large main altar of the basilica presents a life-size statue of the Virgin Mary made of cypress wood by Józef Baltazar Proszowski from Czestochowa , Mary wears a crown and scepter in a standing position. The reredos shows her surrounded by God the Father and the Holy Spirit as well as the Saints Joseph, Joachim, Francis and Clare and angels. The image of Mary was after the approval of Pope Paul VI. canonically crowned on May 19, 1968 by the Primate Stefan Wyszyński and the Krakow Metropolitan Karol Wojtyła . The interior is also decorated with paintings by Michał Kowal and Jan Nyga.

In the transept there are neo-Gothic altars: the altar of St. Barbara with sculptures by St. Kinga and St. Jadwiga; Heart of Jesus with sculptures of Mary and John the Evangelist and the image of the crucifixion. In the chapels of the choir there is the altar of the Blessed Virgin Mary with sculptures by patrons from all over Silesia and a neo-Gothic altar with an image of Our Lady of Czestochowa.
