Basilius Jacobus Groen

Basilius Jacobus Groen (born July 22, 1953 in De Rijp ) is a Dutch liturgical scholar.

Life

After graduating from high school in the Netherlands, he spent a year as a foreign exchange student in the USA (1971/72; graduation from Jamestown High School (North Dakota)). He studied philosophy , theology and modern Greek in Nijmegen , and practical theology, hospital chaplaincy and liturgical history in Amsterdam . In Trier he specialized in liturgical studies as a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , and as a fellow of the Greek state at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in orthodox liturgy and Byzantine art. He then became the founding director of the Institute for Eastern Christian Studies at the Catholic University of Nijmegen . From 1997 to 1998 he taught as visiting professor for ecumenism and the Eastern Church at the University of Münster . From 2002 to September 2018 he taught as full professor for liturgical science and sacramental theology as well as head of the institute for liturgical science, Christian art and hymnology at the University of Graz . He retired on October 1, 2018.
