Basketball association

Success in international basketball competitions
World championships
The Argentine national team won the first basketball world championship in Buenos Aires in 1950 . After that, the Argentine team was able to qualify sporadically, the sixth place in 1967 was the best placement in the next fifty years. Argentina has been at every World Cup since 1986. At the 2002 World Cup , Argentina reached the final against Yugoslavia, but lost after extra time. Olympic games

American Championship
At the American Basketball Championship , which has been held since 1980 , the Argentine team came third in 1980. In the 1990s, the team won silver once (1995) and bronze twice (1993, 1999). In 2001 the Argentine team won the continental title. In the following three tournaments, the team reached the final, but lost there to the teams from the United States in 2003 and 2007 and from Brazil in 2005. Argentina hosted the American Championship for men in 1995 and 2001.
The women's national team has so far won two medals at the American Championships, in 1995 the team lost to the Canadians in the final, and in 2001 the team received the bronze medal.
