The Basler Bebbi Basel (often referred to as Basler Bebbi or BBB for short) are a carnival clique from Basel .

history

Former members of the Young Guard of the Basler Wednesday Society (BMG) and their fathers founded the Basler Bebbi Basel at the founding meeting on April 30, 1930 in the Feldschlösschen restaurant at Spalenberg 11 (now Hotel Basel) . In 1931 the Bebbi took part in the Basel Carnival with three groups for the first time : Younger Basler Bebbi (today Binggis), Young Guard and Older Basler Bebbi (today parent club), a total of 45 tambours and some pipers were there. On November 9, 1962, the Old Guard was founded (also in the Feldschlösschen restaurant).

basement, cellar

The first clique cellar was opened on January 11th at Bäumleingasse 7, but had to be given up again in autumn 1948 due to expansion plans by the civil court. A few doors down (Bäumleingasse 13) the second Bebbi cellar was in operation from January 1950 to March 1955. This cellar is still used today by the Breo clique . 20 years later the Bebbi were able to move into a new clique cellar in the coal cellar of the former pawn shop in Luftgässlein 5. After the cellar had been remodeled on our own, it was inaugurated on November 29, 1974.

Activities outside of Carnival

In order to maintain camaraderie and sociability, the Basel Bebbi have repeatedly participated in pageants of events in and outside Basel, such as the Landi in Zurich (1939), the 500th anniversary of the Battle of St. Jakob (1944), "Braderie" in Biel (1951), Basler Tage in Berlin (1962), opening of the New York Swiss Center (1966), creative carnival in Lage Mierde, Holland (1977), opening of the garden exhibition Grün 80 (1980), Weinfest Freiburg im Breisgau (1989), Midosuji Parade in Osaka , Japan (2002). Every five years the Basel Bebbi celebrate a clique festival. The last one took place in 2005 for the 75th anniversary of the clique.

In 1994 the Bebbi took over the patronage of the fundraising campaign "Holiday camps for children with cancer". At various events such as a jazz matinée, bike races or an alpine evening, CHF 58,000 was raised and presented to the parents' association of children with cancer. Since 1998 there has been an annual country festival at Spittelmatthof in Riehen , which was originally launched as a Bebbi Country Festival and later took place as a Country Festival with Bebbi support in August. Unfortunately it has since been discontinued due to overloading of the farm team.

Clique organs

Since October 1992 the BBB have had their own bulletin called "dr Böbberli", which reports 3 times a year on what is happening around the clique. In addition, the Bebbi have been running an official clique website since April 2000.

Basler Bebbi today

Since it was founded, the BBB have remained a purely male society despite strong problems with young talent. The Bebbi restaurant has always been the restaurant Safran Zunft since 1930 . The Basel Bebbi are divided into 4 groups: the Binggis (from approx. 8 years), Young Guard (12-17 years), Stammverein (from 18) and the Old Guard (from 40 years).
