The Basler Stadtbuch ( Basler Jahrbuch until 1959 ) is a series of publications in the city of Basel, founded in 1879, in printed editions until 2016 and online since 2017 .

The Basler Jahrbuch was created in 1879 as a history -oriented , national-state and local patriotic periodical typical of the time of the 19th century, which was shaped by historicism . The first editor was the historian Heinrich Boos , who came to Switzerland from Germany , who created a follow-up publication to the Basler Taschenbuch (1850–1864), edited by Wilhelm Theodor Streuber and Daniel Albert Fechter , and the Rauracis (1826–1831) edited by Markus Lutz wanted to.

With a brief interruption in the years 1880/1881, the publication appeared every year up to the edition Basler Stadtbuch 2015 in the 136th volume, edition 2016. At the beginning of the 1970s, the city book was no longer financially viable for the publishers at the time and was about to be discontinued. In order to secure its continued existence, it was taken over in 1973 by the Christoph Merian Foundation , which three years later created the Christoph Merian Verlag as publisher . With the takeover, the concept changed from a historiographical publication to an annual chronicle of the city of Basel with articles on events in all areas of life, which also included articles on historical topics, e.g. due to anniversaries.

Since May 2017, the Basler Stadtbuch has been an online platform on which all 136 printed books as well as current dossiers on topics relevant to the city are made available. The Basler Chronik , recorded as part of the printed yearbooks / city books since 1882, was already available online from 2011. On the new platform, it was reunited with the Basel city book . All contents of the Basler Jahrbuch / Basler Stadtbuch (more than 43,000 printed pages) and the Basler Chronik (approx. 33,000 entries) can be searched using a joint search engine . The offer is a free public service from the Christoph Merian Foundation.
