The Basler Rheinsporttage was an open-air event that took place between 1945 and 1970 on the Rhine in the city of Basel between Mittlerer Brücke and Johanniterbrücke .

The first Rheinsporttage was held in 1945 by the WFV Rhenania St. Johann on its 50th anniversary. In the context of this found u. a. the Swiss Canoe Championships and the cantonal rowing championships were held, along with a "current swimming" (comparable to today's Basler Rheinschwimmen ) and the 5th Federal Weidling competition. General Henri Guisan was among the guests of honor .

A second edition took place in August 1946, when the Rheinsporttage got its final form. On the eve of the first time with the Rhein Night Festival , a folk festival with fireworks organized and swimming competitions were first held. Starting from 1947, they agreed on a two-yearly basis, it came in the following issues motorboat races , diving and water skiing -Akrobatik added. In 1953, the Rheinsporttage was postponed for a year in order to hold it in 1954 as part of the International Rhine Shipping Days and for the 600th anniversary of the Guild of Shipmen .

In 1958 and 1962 the event was shortened to one day, in 1960 it was canceled. In 1964, the tenth edition took place for two days. The last edition in 1970 was a flop because of two rainy days, whereupon it was decided to discontinue the event. After the termination, the tradition of the Rhine Night Festival was continued on August 1st as an unofficial national celebration on the Rhine . This has been taking place on the eve of the national holiday since 1993 and is now the largest one-day city festival in Basel with around 100,000 visitors a year.
