List of breeds of chicken |
Bassettes are a breed of chicken that was bred in Liège, Belgium, from 1900. The initial form were small-sized chickens living semi-wild. Targeted breeding took place after 1914. The Bassette Club was founded as early as 1917. The first standard appeared in 1932. The breed did not become popular in Germany until the early 1960s.
Bassettes are very small chickens that carry their bodies almost horizontally. The male has an angled, fully covered tail. The legs are only moderately long. The runs are short.
In relation to their body size, bassettes lay relatively large eggs.
