Bat Cave (St. Lucia)

The Bat Cave is a grotto on the steep coast of Soufrière in the southwest of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia .

Bat Cave is a popular destination for snorkeling tours by boat from Soufrière. For Anglophone tourists there is a special attraction in the allusion to the hiding place of Batman ( Batcave ). The grotto is located on a steep coast where lava rock has piled up. A deep ditch leads underwater to the entrance of the grotto. The grotto itself is only a narrow gap and extends about 6 m into the rock. The underwater part is only about 2.5 m deep, while the grotto rises about 15 m above the water. The attraction of the grotto is a bat colony, which can be observed from the water surface while snorkeling.
