Batem , real name Luc Collin (born April 6, 1960 in Kamina , Congo ) is a Belgian comic artist and comic author. He was best known for continuing the Marsupilamis .

Life

Batem was born on April 6, 1960 in Kamina, which at that time still belonged to the Belgian Congo . After completing some courses with Vittorio Léonardo at the Academy of Fine Arts of Châtelet, he went to Liège , where he trained as a comic artist at the Institut Saint-Luc .

Then Batem asked for a job as a draftsman at Dupuis . His application was rejected a little later. He was then proposed by the Dupuis publishing house to the SEPP (French for Société d'édition, de presse et de publicité), a studio specializing in merchandising.

There he mainly worked on the Snorkels and of course the Marsupilami.

Jean-François Moyersoen discovered his skills for the marsupilami. Shortly afterwards, Moyersoen told André Franquin about it. On January 8, 1987 there was a meeting between Batem, Franquin, Moyersoen and Greg (Michel Régnier). Not even four months later, the Marsupilami album with drawings by Batem was released.

After Franquin's death, Batem continued to draw the series, which made him very famous.
