World Stupidity Award
The World Stupidity Award was given from 2003 to 2007 in Montreal as part of the Just for Laughs humor festival . In up to eleven categories, festival-goers and internet users could choose what they thought were the stupidest incidents of the previous year. The film producer Albert Nerenberg founded the competition, comedian Lewis Black hosted the show from 2005 to 2007 and comedians like Jon Stewart were involved in the organization ( Academy Recognizing Stupidity Everywhere - ARSE ). The award, also known as the Oscars of Idiocy , is no longer awarded.
The (never present) winners included states, organizations, companies, the media (such as Fox News ) and, above all, celebrities. George W. Bush , Dick Cheney , John Kerry , Ann Coulter, and Paris Hilton were recognized for actions or statements. In 2006, an award went to a US district judge who had masturbated several times under the table with a penis pump during negotiations .
One category concerned the stupidest statement ( stupidest statement ) of the year. Prize winners were:
- 2004: George W. Bush - "Major combat operations have ended in Iraq"
- 2005: George W. Bush - "They never stop thinking of new ways to harm our country or our people, and neither do we"
- 2006: Harry Whittington, whom Dick Cheney shot while hunting - "My family and I are deeply sorry for all that Vice President Cheney and his family have had to go through this past week"
- 2007: Kate Upton during an interview during the 2007 Miss Teen USA Pageant competition
