Bathala is a small Maldivian island in the northeast of the Ari Atoll in the Indian Ocean . The oval-shaped island measures around 150 meters in length and 300 meters in width and is surrounded by a house reef . It is named after a type of sweet potato ("Bathala" is Dhivehi for "sweet potato"). The otherwise forested tourist island is surrounded by a sandy beach that runs closer to the 45 bungalows for travelers in the interior of the island. In the center of the island there are small shops and utilities.
