Tourist island

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tourist island is generally called an island that is mainly used for recreational purposes and on which there are no other permanent residents .

In the Pacific , in the Indic and in the Atlantic there are countless islands that were once uninhabited and that were developed solely for tourist purposes. Many of these islands now only consist of a hotel , holiday complex or resort , the area of which is almost identical to that of the island. This applies, for example, to almost all tourist islands in the Maldives ( called Resort Islands there).

Tourist islands are sometimes even created artificially; see for example the Palm Islands construction project .

The term tourist island is, however, also associated with islands that have a permanent population (e.g. Mallorca ), but are heavily frequented by tourists.
