The Antarctic bullhead ( Bathylutichthys taranetzi ) is a small fish from the family of the stubborn bullheads (Psychrolutidae). Only one specimen is known to have been caught from a depth of 1650 meters near South Georgia . It probably lives in the entire Southern Ocean .

features

The Antarctic group is only ten centimeters long, with the broad head making up a third of the body's length. It is flaky. The animals have 13 hard and 28 soft rays in the dorsal fin , the anal fin has 36 soft rays, hard rays are absent. The front part of the dorsal fin lies under the skin. The small pelvic fins only have three soft rays. All fin rays are undivided. The dorsal, anal and caudal fins have grown together and form a fin border around the body, which tapers to a point at the back. A pair of long barbels can be found on the lower jaw at the corners of the mouth. Aside from the last two characteristics, fish resemble Psychrolutes phrictus .

The Antarctic group has 49 eddies and seven Branchiostegal rays . The ploughshare and palatine bone are edentulous. Antarctic globules have two pairs of outer nostrils. The lateral line organ is on the trunk without pores.
