The building cooperative ›Wiederaufbau‹ eG , founded in 1951 , is a housing cooperative based in Braunschweig . With around 19,000 cooperative members and almost 10,000 apartments in south-eastern Lower Saxony and neighboring Saxony-Anhalt, it is the largest cooperative housing company in Lower Saxony and one of the largest in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The building cooperative ›Wiederaufbau‹ eG was founded on May 30, 1951 in Braunschweig. The statutory purpose of the cooperative is to support its members primarily through good, safe and socially responsible housing.

The cooperative can manage, furnish, acquire, broker, sell and look after buildings in all legal forms and forms of use; it can take over all tasks in the area of ​​housing and real estate, urban development and infrastructure (see Articles of Association §2).

The use of a cooperative apartment as well as the use of care / services are primarily available to members of the cooperative. (see Articles of Association §13)

The cooperative has been running a savings facility since 2006, in which deposits are accepted exclusively from its members and their relatives. Housing cooperatives with savings facilities are housing companies that have a banking license from the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) to collect savings. The savings deposits are used exclusively in the company's own housing stock and not for lending to third parties.

The housing stock of almost 9,400 residential units is spread over an area from Braunschweig, Hildesheim, Wolfenbüttel, Salzgitter, Goslar, Bad Harzburg, Seesen, Quedlinburg to Magdeburg. The focus of the housing stock is in Braunschweig.
